Thread Locking by BENSELER

Thread Locking

BENSELER is one of the leading service providers in the field of thread locking - and has been since 1982. With more than 40 years of experience, BENSELER offers its customers a complete product portfolio of thread locking products. Whether screws or nuts, 1 mm or 280 mm diameter, whether steel or aluminum, whether for internal or external use or even for highly sensitive components and assemblies - BENSELER offers individual solutions and products for the specific requirements of a wide range of industries.

Definition of Thread Locking

Thread locking as a mechanical (in special cases also manual) pre-coating is a process in which BENSELER partially coats the threads to be secured with a liquid locking lacquer. After subsequent drying, a dry, non-slip coating is formed. The task of thread locking systems is to secure thread pairs against loosening or loss. Sealing can also be a desired effect. For this purpose, BENSELER applies the products precote®, LOCTITE® or BETEO S-LOK or SCHRAUSI-LOK in different variants. Pre-coated screw and nut locking is a very sustainable process, waste-free and low in solvents. The coatings can be poured and stored and are only activated when the screws are tightened. BENSELER is happy to provide customers with individual and comprehensive advice on which thread locking system is best suited to their specific requirements.

Characteristics of the thread lock

Depending on the function, BENSELER differentiates between adhesive, clamping or sealing characteristics of the threadlockers. All variants prevent the component from loosening or losing its grip.

Characteristics of thread locking by adhesive bonding:

In thread locking by adhesive bonding, microcapsules are crushed by pressure or shear stress when the threaded part is screwed together. The liquid components released as a result are mixed and then harden so that the threads are secured against loosening.

This process is suitable for steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, plastic and all common surfaces. After application, the coatings are pourable and non-slip.

BENSELER adhesive threadlockers comply with DIN 267 Part 27 as well as many specifications of the automotive industry worldwide.

Standard products used are: precote® -30, 50, 80, 85, 86, 87, -3/-8; 3M; Loctite/Driloc 2040, 2045 and others.

Advantages of securing by bonding at a glance:

• Reliable thread lock to prevent automatic loosening
• Captive, dry and non-slip
• Bonding and additional sealing function
• insensitive to e.g. oil and grease after curing
• reproducible, defined assembly values
• storable

Characteristics of thread locking by clamp fuse:

When securing threads by clamping, a chemical coating (e.g. polyamide patch S-Lok) is partially applied to the threaded part. This application has an inhibiting effect. This prevents the screw from unscrewing and losing itself under load. Nevertheless, the screws can be loosened at any time and can also be screwed in or out several times. After screwing, the clamping lock is effective immediately and does not require any curing time.

The clamp is suitable for steel and stainless steel screws, galvanized iron materials, aluminium, etc. and is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective anti-loss device. Various colors are available.

BENSELER uses precote® 6, 9, 10, 10-1, 19-2, 19-7, BETEO S-Lok, Schrausi-Lok and BETEO VC-3 clamping coatings.

Depending on the product, the clamping lock complies with DIN 267 / 28 and many automotive industry specifications worldwide.

Advantages of a clamp fuse at a glance:

• Can be reused up to 5 times
• Immediate clamping effect after assembly
• Can be stored for a very long time
• Sealing effect against liquids and gases
• Temperature-resistant from - 50° to + 120°C
• captive, dry and non-slip

Characteristics of thread locking by sealing:

BENSELER also uses chemical thread locking coatings for thread locking by sealing. These are applied partially in order to reliably seal thread pairs against gases and liquids. Different products are used depending on the sealing requirements. In contrast to clamping, the sealing effect starts directly during the screwing process.

Sealing is suitable for steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, plastic and all common surfaces. The products used are precote® 30/-3/-8; precote® 4, 5, 15, 200; Loctite®/Driseal 5061.

Advantages of securing by sealing at a glance:

• Immediate sealing effect against liquids and gases after installation
• No change in the thread friction coefficient
• also suitable for plastics
• captive, dry and non-slip

Areas of application: This is where the threadlockers are used

In addition to the automotive industry, areas of application include the industrial, plant engineering, retail, consumer, electrical and IT sectors.
